How did you become interested in hemp and how did your background get you here?
I grew up in Wyoming working on a ranch. I was in 4-H and FFA and spent a lot of time in rural communities. At Colorado State University, I studied physical anthropology to learn the human aspect of how we interact with our world, and then decided to focus on how to work to evolve and change the world I live in. I finished my formal education with a master’s at Regis University in sustainability development with application of open systems.
My focus when I work with clients is on the triple bottom line: economics, environment and social responsibility. After a lot of public policy and advocacy work on climate mitigation in Colorado and internationally, I found I was doing all of this work on hemp, and it united my ag background with the sustainability and mitigation work that I was doing at the time (in 2014). I realized hemp was an emerging economy that needed a lot of assistance.

Bipartisan House Bills Reintroduced to Regulate Hemp-Derived CBD
By the U.S. Hemp Roundtable
On March 17, U.S. Representative Morgan Griffith (R-VA), with lead Democratic co-sponsor Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN), reintroduced two bills in the U.S. House that would require the Food and Drug Administration to regulate hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD). The Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act of 2023 would subject hemp extract products to the regulatory framework for dietary supplements, while the CBD Product Safety and Standardization Act of 2023 would establish regulations for CBD as a food and beverage additive.
The bills’ filings follow on the heels of the FDA’s recent announcement asking Congress to work with the agency to develop a regulatory framework for CBD.

Help Rebuild Ukraine With Hemp
Sergiy Kovalenkov, aka Doctor Hemphouse, one of the world’s renowned specialists in building with hemp, is appealing to the hemp industry for help in rebuilding war-torn Ukraine, including building Ukraine’s biggest social housing project to date — a 10,000-square-foot residential building to house refugees and orphans who lost their parents to the war. In particular, the project is seeking builders, sponsors, automated block-making machinery and a hempcrete spraying system.
