Colorado’s Vantage Hemp Focuses on Pharma-Grade CBD
By Jean Lotus
As CBD’s price has dropped and the popular cannabis-derived compound has become omni-present for consumers, one Colorado company has distinguished itself by producing medical-grade CBD.
In a multi-million dollar lab outside Greeley, Vantage Hemp, founded in 2019, employs 36 people extracting compounds from Colorado-grown hemp with CO2 and propane-based methods under Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards required by the Food and Drug Administration.

Support H.R. 841, The Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act
In September 2020, U.S. Reps. Kurt Schrader (D-OR) and Morgan Griffith (R-VA) introduced the Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act – a bill which would provide a clear legal pathway for the sale of hemp extracts like CBD, while ensuring that products must comply with the rigorous regulatory framework existing for dietary supplements. The bill garnered broad bi-partisan support. On Feb. 7, 2021, Reps. Schrader and Griffith and 17 of their colleagues reintroduced the bill as H.R. 841. Support passage of the bill here.
Urge Your Members of Congress to Support Our Troops’ Access to CBD
On July 20, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives approved an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to allow service members to use products containing hemp, including CBD. Unfortunately, the amendment was not included in the Senate’s version of the NDAA, which passed on July 23, and was not included in the final bill. However, as a new Congress meets this year, they are hoping for another hearing. Learn more.
Sign the 1% Hemp Petition
The 2018 Farm Bill authorized hemp production but used an outdated definition of hemp that does not work for farmers or the hemp industry. The current definition limiting hemp to 0.3% THC has proven unworkable, forcing many farmers to destroy their crops. Congress must change the definition of hemp to allow up to 1% THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) so that farmers can grow hemp without fearing that they will later have to destroy them. Add your name to the Vote Hemp petition urging Congress to redefine hemp as up to 1% THC.

Let’s Bring Industrial Hemp to Farm Aid
In 1985, Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp decided to put on a concert for America’s family farmers who were in dire need of assistance. They raised over $7 million in that first year and Farm Aid have been helping to support America’s family farmers ever since. We’re asking you to join us in asking Farm Aid to make industrial hemp a focus of this year’s event and into the future. Sign the petition here.
Urge Support for AB 45 and SB 235 in California
AB 45 and SB 235 are the California state Assembly and Senate versions of a bill that would allow the distribution and sale of hemp-derived CBD as a food, beverage, and dietary supplement, and make clear that a product is not adulterated or misbranded due to the inclusion of hemp. These are high-priority bills that have been near passage in California since 2019. If signed into law, AB 45 and SB 235 will open an important retail market for CBD consumers. Take action here.

Let’s Talk Hemp Podcast – Season 4, Episode 8
Available On May 13, 2021

D8, Delta 8, Delta 8 THC is popping up everywhere. It showed up in force at NoCo Hemp Expo a little over a month ago and seems to be the hottest thing in hemp currently. But does it belong under the hemp umbrella? Does Delta 8 get you high? Should Delta 8 be regulated like CBD and other non-intoxicating cannabinoids that have become popular consumer health supplements? Hemp-derived CBD supplements that, by the way, still need a clear regulatory pathway defined by the FDA. Or should Delta 8 be regulated alongside Delta 9 THC, in the adult use system, or maybe in some other manner? These questions and more will be discussed with this week’s guest Marielle Weintraub, president of the US Hemp Authority, the hemp industry’s self-regulating organization that provides certification for high standards.
